The Korea National Maritime Museum, which was temporarily operated in July 2012 and officially opened in April 2015 to cultivate citizens’ progressive view of marine life and to
expand marine culture infrastructure, under the concept of 'My Sea, Our Future.' It is a comprehensive maritime museum that encompasses all aspects of marine culture including marine culture, marine history and characters, sailing vessels, marine life, marine experience, marine industry, marine territory and marine science.
In the permanent exhibition halls from the 3rd to 4th floors of the museum, a variety of artifacts including those of marine history, science, and industry are displayed. In the
special exhibition hall on the 2nd floor, diverse special exhibitions every quarter are displayed. It features 18,000 artifacts from home and abroad
where you can glimpse into the future through viewing the history of the sea. In particular, you can see rare artifacts, such as the restored "Joseon diplomatic envoy vessel" and
Asia's first publicly opened marine encyclopedia "Wonders of the Sea."
The Korea National Maritime Museum contributes to raising the awareness of the marine environment through collecting, preserving, researching and exhibiting marine-related
artifacts scattered both at home and abroad.
